Summary and Qualifications:

The Accounting Manager’s primary purpose is to manage all aspects of the Accounting Team’s responsibilities ensuring proper application of accounting principles.

This position will collaborate with the Director of Finance, the Accounting Team, external auditors, cross functional team leads, hospital associates on finance functions to ensure programs are consistently administered in compliance with the Mars Finance manual and accounting principles.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
  • Manage accounting team to ensure the proper accounting treatment of business transactions, internal controls, provide technical guidance for new business developments and interpret the application of new accounting rules.
  • Serve as the line manager for the associates within the Accounting & Reporting team, managing, coaching, and developing them.
  • Collaborate with functional accounting team on month-end and year-end close, reviewing key journal entries and reconciliations and assisting as needed.
  • Serve as the primary contact for internal and external audits.
  • Review non-routine transactions as well as new accounting pronouncements, research technical accounting treatments, and discuss findings with Director of Finance and Finance Leadership Team.
  • Lead Accounting Team to perform walkthroughs of internal controls, evaluating effectiveness, suggest implementation of new controls, and possible improvements to existing controls.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, pro-forma analysis and other ad-hoc requests from the Finance Leadership Team. Lead projects by partnering with associates within the department and throughout the practice. Deliver exceptional service to internal and external customers of the Finance Team.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time. 
  • Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • CPA license is required.
  • Five years of Accounting or Finance experience are required.
  • Direct supervisory experience is required.
  • Public accounting experience is preferred.
  • Healthcare (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.) or retail background is preferred.
