Business Analyst Operational Finance

Summary and Qualifications:

Support the design and development of operational reporting and analysis data solutions through research, requirements gathering, documentation, education, testing, and effective communication with end users.  Leverage data and business savvy as a liaison between the business stakeholders, the data systems analysts, and the data warehouse developers to clarify and iterate report and data mart requirements for drawing key business insights and creating operational efficiencies.

 Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.

  • Consult with end users to understand data needs, draft problems statements, and develop functional and technical requirements to be used by data systems analysts and data warehouse developers to build data marts and models.

  • Organize and scope work with an understanding of cross functional data and people dependencies.

  • Leverage self-service Business Intelligence tools like Power BI to draw key insights and produce clear and concise presentation/results set for iterating through requirements with end users and stakeholders.

  • Test results to ensure quality system design, data modeling, process documentation, and programming.

  • Maintain accurate and consistent metadata about key data sets, metrics and lineage, workflows, user lists, access and permissions requirements in a data dictionary and/or catalog.

  • Advise on improvements to data quality, analytics processes, metadata, and training materials.

  • Stay current on data visualization and analysis trends, methodologies, tools, and technologies to streamline processes and improve program efficiency.

  • Other job duties as assigned.
Special Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time. 

  • Project timelines and work volume / deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.

  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.

  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.

  • Environment where pets are present.
Experience, Education and/or Training:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Computer Science or Business is preferred, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Five years of business analysis, data analysis/visualization, requirements gathering is required. 

  • Experience with documentation of system processes is required.

  • Experience with the Microsoft analytics stack including Power BI and Excel for data analysis is required.

  • Experience with relational databases is preferred.
