Why did you choose Banfield?

I’ve had a deep passion for animal welfare for as long as I can remember, and I’ve trusted Banfield with my pets since my first experience with our amazing doctors many years ago. It’s important to me that I talk about my experience as a Banfield client because, ultimately, that experience drove my interest in joining the team. When I started, the first thing I realized was how much everyone here truly cares and how supportive an environment it is. Banfield connects all of us in such fulfilling ways—it really is a wonderful place to be.

Tell us about yourself:

Professionally, I’ve spent the last 7+ years learning what makes a culture special, how to identify when someone’s strengths align with my organization’s mission, and where I can build bridges that benefit all involved. I love my job. At home, my partner and I have an adorable Dachshund mix named Apollo and an ill-tempered but sweet-as-can-be Tabby cat named Hera. If I’m not at work, there’s a good chance one of them is occupying my time.

What qualities do you look for when hiring veterinarians?

The most important things I look for are adaptability, empathy, and a growth mindset. Are you always looking to learn how you can take the next steps as a professional? Are you able to relate to your clients and help them through difficult decisions? Do you think on your feet and adjust your approach based on new information? Those traits are so crucial to being successful both at Banfield and in life.

What tips do you have for veterinarians when evaluating a practice to work?

Ask questions! Good practices will always be willing to provide you with information, even if it isn’t exactly what you want to hear. I coach all of my candidates to explore their options and ask everything you would want to know because I don’t want you to have any doubt that Banfield is the right fit for you. When you go to sign your offer, the only emotion I want you to feel is EXCITEMENT!

Do you have a favorite recruiter story to share?

This might be a shameless plug, but I’m going to share anyways. When I first started with the practice, I reached out to a doctor who had left us several years prior in order to specialize in orthopedic surgery. She had loved her work with Banfield and was having a tough time with her current practice, but she didn’t want to give up that new facet of her career. We worked together to find an outside-the-box solution and worked out a plan. Our amazing leadership team funded some new equipment, and she became our internal specialist for those surgeries in her region. I’m happy to say that she is still with the practice today and doing well. Her story is a great example of what is possible at Banfield.
