Regional Risk Manager - Mid Atlantic (Asset Protection)

This position will support the Banfield Pet Hospital locations in the Mid-Atlantic region (ex: Atlanta, GA; Charlotte, NC; and Alexandria, VA).

Salary Range: $100,531 - $138,230 (DOE)

Summary and Qualifications:

Build a culture of quality, safety, accountability, compliance, and asset protection.

Identify, develop, and execute risk mitigation strategies, creating regional programs, ensuring proactive application of established protocols and regulatory requirements.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
  • Serve as a business partner to the Regional Leadership and Corporate Risk Management teams, leading and implementing new and complex risk programs, business tasks, and initiatives; managing large portion of regional P&L, revenue, and margin outcomes.
  • Work independently to develop and lead implementation of regional and market-based risk programs, ensuring adoption of new policies and programs that drive quality, risk, safety, and compliance improvements.
  • Guide hospital associates, regional leaders and Central Team Support (CTS) partners on matters relating to financial and enterprise risk elements.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of Compliance, Controlled Substances, Health & Safety, Waste Management, PetWare invoicing, Revenue Generation, and Cost Reduction (auditing program).
  • Develop region and division plans based on metrics and impact review findings, working with key partners to execute corrective action plans and reduce nonconformance in the future.
  • Proactively identify complex risks, and vulnerabilities, and develop new solutions and/or process improvements impacting the field, hospitals, associates, pets, and clients.
  • Conduct and resolve investigations related to associate-related financial loss and compliance violations while exercising discretion and independent judgement.
  • Drive revenue streams through Ancillary Services and APC Outliers resulting in annual revenue growth practice wide.
  • Work independently with minimum supervision; singularly responsible for regional risk program strategy, outcome, and application to ensure the results are achieved.
  • Identify, develop, and execute risk mitigation strategies based on root cause analysis, creating regional programs designed to reduce loss and waste; deliver financial, regulatory and safety targets for the region through the proactive application of established protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with regional leadership and associate relations to mitigate the risk to associate security and safety in the event of a potential or imminent threat; mentoring the region around specific risk management issues and then building and leading training initiatives to improve safety and security.
  • Safeguard the organization from diversion, compliance, and safety risks using investigative techniques, reporting, auditing tools and field visitations.
  • In partnership with Field P&O and Health & Wellbeing, ensure the safety of all associates through threat assessment, open-source investigations, physical security deployments, and safety planning.
  • Interpret internal and external business risk, adjusting strategy and execution to a ensure safe, legal, compliant, and profitable environment.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • This position requires 50% travel.
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time. 
  • Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Criminal Justice or Legal is preferred, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Certifications in Interviewing and Interrogations, as well as Behavioral Analysis, are preferred.
  • 10 years of Multi-Unit Management experience are required, with Asset Protection experience preferred.
  • In depth knowledge and expertise in safety, liability and risk management operations are required.
  • Expertise in behavioral sciences, change management, teambuilding, effective communication, coaching, feedback, and facilitation related to risk management is required.
  • The ability to work in a cross-functional team with a proven track record of driving results is required.
  • Previous experience in the Veterinary field as a hospital leader or District Manager in a retail environment is preferred.
