Role Purpose

​ As a Director, Data Platform Architecture, you will lead a team of data architects responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our enterprise data architecture. You will play a critical role in establishing data architecture standards, principles, and best practices, driving the development of scalable and resilient data solutions to meet the evolving needs of our organization.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
  • Architecture Design: Lead the design and development of our enterprise data architecture, collaborating with stakeholders to define requirements, identify business use cases, and develop scalable and flexible data solutions.
  • Data Modeling: Define and maintain data models, schemas, and structures to support the storage, organization, and retrieval of data across diverse data sources and domains, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Data Integration: Design and implement data integration solutions to facilitate the seamless flow of data between systems, applications, and platforms, ensuring interoperability and data consistency across the organization.
  • Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend data management technologies, tools, and platforms to support business objectives and strategic initiatives, staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Data Security and Privacy: Implement data security controls and measures to protect sensitive data assets, including encryption, access controls, and data masking, and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA.
  • Data Storage and Management: Oversee the selection, implementation, and management of data storage solutions, including databases, data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud storage services, optimizing performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Data Governance: Establish data governance policies, standards, and processes for data management, data quality, and data security, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of data architects, data modelers, and database administrators, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements, priorities, and challenges, and align data architecture initiatives with business goals and objectives.
  • Platform Administration: Administer data architecture platforms and tools, including user access management, permissions configuration, system configuration, and maintenance tasks, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time. 
  • Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field is required.
  • Certification in data management, data architecture, or related fields (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional, Certified Information Management Professional) is preferred.
  • Proven experience (10 years) in designing, implementing, and managing data platforms and infrastructure, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Proven experience (10 years) in data architecture, data modeling, and data management, with a focus on designing and implementing enterprise data solutions.
  • Strong understanding of data management concepts, principles, and best practices, including data modeling, data integration, data storage, and data governance.
  • Proficiency in data architecture tools and technologies, such as ERwin, PowerDesigner, or similar solutions, and experience with data modeling techniques and methodologies (e.g., relational, dimensional, NoSQL).
  • Knowledge of data integration technologies and platforms, such as ETL/ELT tools, messaging queues, and API integration frameworks, and experience with data integration patterns and architectures.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and experience with cloud data storage, processing, and analytics (e.g., Databricks).
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team, set clear goals and expectations, and drive performance and results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data architecture challenges, identify solutions, and implement effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, build consensus, and influence decision-making.
  • Experience working with Agile or DevOps methodologies and implementing cloud data architecture and data management processes is preferred.

Salary: $151,813 – $227,720
