Why did you choose Banfield?

I chose Banfield because, as a lifelong pet owner, I wanted to work for a company focused on helping pets live a long, healthy life. Being my second career, I wanted a job I can be passionate about, and since it was working with pets, Banfield was a perfect choice. Of course, their focus on associate well-being, the generous benefits package, and the great people are also reasons—and why I will be celebrating eight years with Banfield.

Tell us about yourself:

I previously worked for 25 years in the airline industry in several positions, including leading teams in Operations and Human Resources, in which I became familiar with recruiting. Since being with Banfield, I have recruited practice managers and doctors, and staffed new hospitals. My favorite is recruiting for Veterinary Technicians, which I have done for five years. I have two rescue mutts, Kellie and Wrigley, and have been involved in animal-assisted therapy. I also enjoy travel, gardening, and watching sports—especially football and basketball.

What qualities do you look for when hiring veterinary technicians?

The first word that comes to mind is "passion." Whether they are brand new Vet Techs who have that passion for learning and growing their skills or experienced Vet Techs passionate about ensuring each pet has the best care, each client gets the best service.

What tips do you have for veterinary technicians when evaluating a practice to work?

You can find so much information on the practice's career page, including who they are, what they do, the requirements for different positions, company history and culture, and even testimonials of current associates. I would also recommend following the practice on social media. It can tell you a lot about a practice. During an interview, ask questions about the one or two priorities you want to have in your new job and how they can be fulfilled.

What do you love most about finding veterinary technicians talent?

I know how satisfying it is to have a job that you enjoy going to each workday. So the most enjoyable thing for me is to help someone find the right position at the right location. It's so rewarding when I receive a nice note from someone thanking me for helping them get that job that impacts their whole life.
