Doctor Mentor (Arizona East, Arizona West & Intermountain)

DVM/VMD or equivalent is required.

Salary Range: $118,796 - $163,344 (Depending on experience & location)

Summary and Qualifications:

In partnership and support with the Director of Veterinary Quality (DVQ), creates a welcoming and supportive community for doctors to learn and grow. In service to doctor retention and engagement, the Doctor Mentor will provide guidance and constructive clinical feedback to Associate Doctors, Coach Doctors and cohorts.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
  • Meets with doctors on a regular basis to discuss and provide guidance on growth opportunities, career paths, and career planning.
  • Builds relationships with doctor mentees, establishing trust and rapport to assist them with setting goals, creating action plans, and tracking progress towards achieving career goals in partnership with their line manager.
  • Partners with the DVQ in support of engagement and retention to identify and determine ongoing doctor development and growth needs including clinical skills, clinically relevant leadership competencies, medical quality, and career goals within the assigned markets.
  • Partners with the DVQ to build action plans with goals and measurements of success based on coach and associate doctor development and support needs.
  • Assesses skills, knowledge and ability at market or individual level to select the appropriate programs and resources to address gaps in clinical and functional areas for coach and associate doctors.
  • Identifies learning needs and aligns with the appropriate subject matter experts to improve work experience, engagement and skills for coach and associate doctors.
  • Fosters community and builds networks among doctors and coaches internal to Banfield and partnerships across the Mars Veterinary Health (MVH) ecosystem.
  • Facilitates case discussions and provides guidance, insight and constructive clinical feedback.
  • In partnership with the DVQ monitors progress and initiates intervention strategies when additional support or referral is needed based on unique understanding or needs of the individual.
  • Provides guidance and support to doctor mentees to overcome obstacles and challenges by offering clinical advice and feedback on strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Encourages doctor mentees to develop skills, knowledge, and confidence to pursue their goals by providing resources, tools, and networks to help doctors succeed
  • Validates coach readiness for Coach Doctor Certification.
  • Remains current on best practices in advising/retention and provide support to the business as appropriate.
  • Collects data and provide insight and recommendations to improve program effectiveness, doctor experience, development, and retention.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • This position requires 75% travel.
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time. 
  • Project timelines and work volume / deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:

  • DVM or VMD is required, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • A minimum of five years  of experience advising and developing performance in a veterinary environment are required.
  • Veterinary license in the state of residence and a willingness to acquire a veterinary license in other state(s) within this role’s geographic scope are required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills with a passion for mentoring and education are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with strong teamwork and collaboration skills are required.
  • Excellent planning and prioritizing skills are required.
  • Easy adaptability to different communication, working styles and needs is required.
  • Ability to work well in an ambiguous environment is required.
  • Strong confidentiality and ethical standards are required.
  • Experience with Office 365 Suite is required.
